This award, originally established in memory of Jane Barley and Fred Johnson, is given annually to recognize outstanding service to ACTR. The award is traditionally presented at the annual ACTR membership meeting.
Nominees must be members of ACTR in good standing. They should have demonstrated prominent service to ACTR in the form of active involvement in the work of the organization and promotion of its goals. Additional considerations include demonstrated devotion to the profession in terms of activities such as teaching, professional involvement, and activities in the field beyond ACTR and the classroom. Those were qualities exemplified by Jane Barley and Fred Johnson.
Nominations
are welcomed in the form of a letter that summarizes the nominee’s
contributions to ACTR and the field of Russian studies and may include
other information, such as professional accomplishments, personal
qualities, or other relevant information. Educational background and
employment information may be included, but the nomination does not
require a curriculum vitae.
After the awards committee decides on the award, the ACTR Executive Committee will be informed and asked to approve the decision. The committee will then notify the awardee and ask for a CV and any further information that the awardee wants to share. The committee will prepare a citation to accompany the announcement of the award at ACTR’s annual Membership Meeting, where the awardee will receive a plaque.
To
submit a nomination for the consideration of the committee, please send
it by email attachment to Ben Rifkin at this email address: b.rifkin at
