Russian Language Practice for Teachers

Advanced Russian Conversation for Teachers (Conversational Meet-ups)

ACTR is excited to run a new professional development initiative since  January, 2024: regular conversation hours for teachers of Russian. Any member in good standing is welcome to join this meet-up. The group will meet on Zoom and discuss current events, socially relevant topics, and language pedagogy -- all in the Russian language.

Whether you are looking to engage in meaningful conversations about teaching strategies or want to practice your Russian in a supportive environment, this meet-up is for you!  Please view the welcome video from the meet-up's host, Izolda (Iza) Savenkova, a current Board Member. If you have any questions, please, contact Iza at iza.savenkova at gmail.com.

Book Club in Russian

The book club is open to everyone who wishes to read and discuss works of fiction written in Russian. It serves as a space for school teachers, instructors, and graduate students who lack opportunities for communication in Russian. Additionally, the club meetings provide an opportunity to learn about contemporary authors and new releases in Russian-language literature.

The book club usually meets during winter and holiday breaks.

We are pleased to invite you to the second online meeting of the ACTR Summer Conversation Club: Грамматический час on Monday, June 15, at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

This format grew out of colleagues’ suggestions and requests for a dedicated space to review and practice selected aspects of Russian grammar.

During the upcoming session, we will focus on verbal aspect, a topic selected by the majority of those who registered for Грамматический час. This meeting will be a wonderful opportunity to refresh your knowledge, practice complex grammar in a supportive environment, and connect with colleagues from different programs.

This meeting is intended primarily for teachers of Russian for whom Russian is not a native language. Questions related to language teaching will be addressed in a separate session (Методическая мастерская). Please see the flyer for the full schedule of ACTR Summer Conversation Club meetings.

All meetings will take place on Zoom and will not be recorded. After each meeting, we typically send registered participants a list of resources and useful materials shared during the session.

We look forward to seeing you next Monday!

    Warmly,

    ACTR Professional Development Committee

    Iza Savenkova and Iuliia Rychkova
